Kids safety legislation like the Kids Online Safety Act has constantly been pushed in Congress because of the claim that these censorship bills will "hold Big Tech accountable." I am asking you as my lawmaker to consider that legislation that actually attacks Big Tech's business model that runs on exploiting our data and making our futures unlivable wouldn't actually be endorsed and supported by Big Tech companies. The Kids Online Safety Act is supported by Big Tech companies like Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Snapchat. They are okay with complying with KOSA because of their comfortable relationship with the current administration enforcing this law and users being subject to more censorship and surveillance because it protects their bottom line. The Kids Online Safety Act is a threat, and more than anything, has distracted us from pursuing efforts that would actually cut off Big Tech from the streams of power, data, and capital that allow these companies to harm us in the first place.
