Provide enough bins and recycling boxes for Hotwells and Harbourside residents

Bristol City Council

Overflowing bin in flats in Harbouside

John Morison
Bristol City Council prides itself on being a leading city for recycling yet residents of the Hotwells and Harbourside flats are finding it increasingly difficult to recycle their waste. Since more people have been isolating, shielding and working from home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is obvious that more domestic waste is being produced. This is not the fault of the residents and has resulted in many refuse skips constantly overflowing. According to residents the sorting bins are equally full, making it impossible for people to recycle their waste.

The residents and management companies of the apartment blocks have contacted Bristol City Council for more recycling and general waste bins, only to be told that there are enough bins. This is not sufficient. Hotwells and Harbourside residents deserve more than overflowing waste bins and the citizens of Bristol deserve a green city where all waste that can be recycled is recycled and does not end up in the black bin due to a lack of facilities. More bins will require more waste collections but it is time for the council to face the reality - residents deserve a clean environment.

We call on Bristol City Council to provide sufficient waste and recycling facilities and collections for the residents of Hotwells and Harbourside apartment blocks.
