Bold Immigration Reform Cannot Wait

U.S. Federal Representatives

After years of organized grassroots resistance to family separations and children detained in cages, politicians toying with DACA, forced hysterectomies, hateful rhetoric and immigrant communities disproportionately suffering and dying from COVID19, CSPL immigrant leaders and allies are approaching this historical moment with profound urgency.

As people of faith, as immigrant leaders and as allies in this movement, we are calling on our elected officials to support the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 and prioritize these four demands which are informed by and rooted in our faith:

  1. Path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants.

  2. Immediate release of adults and children from detention centers and the reunification of families.

  3. Equitable and affordable access to healthcare for all immigrants, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  4. Though DACA must be protected, it is the floor and the ceiling must be a dedicated commitment to comprehensive immigration reform.

The opportunity before us requires resolve and action. We must work together to pursue bold immigration reform that will pave a path to citizenship for all undocumented people in this nation. As Catholics and people of faith we must all personally urge our elected officials to seize this opportunity to advance comprehensive immigration reform and affirm the inherent dignity and worth of all people. Windows of opportunity such as this have previously come and gone. This time must be different. Our faith traditions proclaim the inherent dignity and worth of all people. With forceful moral clarity God has repeatedly declared throughout scripture and history that the rights of migrants and refugees are sacred. The exploitative conditions under which immigrant communities have toiled in the U.S. only grow stronger when the rights and legal protections that we’ve long been promised continue to be denied. This must change beginning with a bold commitment to comprehensive immigration reform.

To call on your federal representatives to fulfill their responsibility as your elected officials, sign this petition showing your support for the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 and the four priorities listed above. Then, share the petition with your friends, family, and community so that they can sign.

Thank you,

CSPL
