TELL VIRTUA: Remove Scott Borsky from Virtua Health Chaplaincy
Dennis Pullin, President and CEO, Virtua Health
To Dennis Pullin, President and CEO of Virtua Health:
I am writing regarding Scott Borsky, who publicly identifies himself as a chaplain with Virtua Health and frequently references his chaplaincy role in his public social media activity. In light of deeply disturbing public statements he has made, I am requesting an immediate response from Virtua regarding his affiliation with your health system and whether his conduct is consistent with Virtua’s standards and mission.
As President and CEO of South Jersey’s largest nonprofit healthcare provider, you are entrusted with safeguarding an institution built on compassion, dignity, equity, and community trust. Virtua’s stated commitment to serving all patients with respect and humanity requires a clear and immediate response to conduct that is fundamentally at odds with those values.
Mr. Borsky has publicly posted statements including the below (links at end).
- “Make no mistake. These vermin are not interested in a two-state solution. They never have been. Stop thinking that’s the answer. The only answer is total and complete annihilation. This needs to begin as soon as the last hostage is released. Within seconds.
- “There are no innocent civilians in Gaza. Fact. Period.”
- There are no other options than the entire annihilation of Gaza. Hamas = Gazan civilians. Option time is over.”
These statements are not expressions of political opinion; they employ dehumanizing language and explicitly endorse erasure of an entire population. A chaplain is entrusted with caring for patients and families during moments of fear, trauma, illness, and loss. The position requires compassion, empathy, respect for human dignity, and the ability to provide spiritual support to all people regardless of faith, ethnicity, nationality, or background. An individual who publicly refers to an entire population as “vermin” and advocates for their “annihilation” cannot credibly fulfill those responsibilities.
This is particularly alarming given Virtua’s stated commitment to inclusive, community-centered care across South Jersey. Virtua serves one of the most diverse regions in New Jersey, including Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian patients, families, employees, and community members. They raise legitimate concerns about whether they can trust that they would be treated with equal dignity, compassion, and respect by someone serving in a pastoral role connected to your institution.
Because Mr. Borsky publicly and frequently associates his online presence with his chaplaincy work, his statements do not exist in a private vacuum. They reflect directly on the institutions with which he is affiliated, including Virtua.
I am requesting:
An immediate public response from Virtua addressing these concerns;
Immediate review of whether his conduct violates Virtua’s ethical standards and expectations for chaplaincy service;
His removal from any chaplaincy or affiliated role within Virtua;
A clear public reaffirmation that Virtua rejects dehumanizing rhetoric and remains committed to equitable, compassionate care for all members of the South Jersey community.
