Bring Jose Palma Mejia home to his daughters
Department of Homeland Security, ICE Chicago Field Office
UPDATE:
Despite his deep roots in this city, a strong legal case, and two children who depend on him, José Palma Mejía's request for release was denied and he was granted voluntary departure. The court's decision prolongs a separation that is causing real, daily harm to his daughters and his community. Thank you to everyone who showed up for José. Neighbors, advocates, and elected leaders raised their voices — and our movement is stronger for it. The outcome does not erase José's humanity, his contributions, or his right to due process. It does not diminish the strength of his case, and it does not end our commitment to him. We will continue fighting for justice for José and his family. We call on our community and elected leaders to keep showing up, keep applying pressure, and keep demanding that families stay together. Our work is not done. We're in this together. You can support Jade and Lluvia through the family's GoFundMe.
ACTUALIZACION:
We, the undersigned, demand the immediate release of Jose Palma Mejia - a loving father, business owner, and member of the Southeast Side community.
Jose Palma Mejia was working as a newspaper distributor to raise his two US citizen daughters when his life came to a halt. He was stopped by ICE during operation Midway Blitz and has been detained for months in Mississippi.
Jose's daughters (11 and 16 years old) are living through a traumatic and precarious situation: their mother was deported months ago, and they're now living with their half brother. It's imperative we reunite them with their father, so they can be TOGETHER - not hundreds of miles away.
Please help us demand ICE to #BringJoseHome
