Bring Ranked Choice Voting to Chicago

The Chicago City Council

It’s time to make Chicago's elections less expensive and more reflective of what voters actually want.

Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) would end “spoiling” the vote,” vote-splitting,” and “the lesser of two evils.” Instead, it would allow voters to rank the candidates they like in the order they like them.

Here’s why it matters:

  • More choices, less drama. You can vote your values without worrying about “wasting” your vote.

  • Better campaigns. Candidates need to appeal to more people, not just their base. That means less negativity toward their opponent and more focus on the issues.

  • Fairer outcomes. When more voices count, our government works better for everyone.

  • Eliminates costly runoff elections. The city does not have to allocate additional funds for printing ballots, running polling places, and staffing a second round of voting.

RCV has made elections fairer in cities and states nationwidelet's bring it to Chicago.

Let your alderperson at the Chicago City Council know:

  • You want Ranked Choice Voting for municipal elections.
  • You want elections where every vote really counts.
  • You want more choices and better representation.
  • You want to cut costly runoff elections and save taxpayer dollars.

Add your name to show your support and help us make RCV a reality in Chicago!

Dear Members of the Chicago City Council,

We, the undersigned residents of Chicago, urge you to vote in favor of resolution R2025-0018786, which is currently before the Council.

Ranked choice voting is a common-sense reform that strengthens our democracy and makes elections more efficient, fair, and cost-effective. Allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference ensures that elected officials win with majority support—without the need for expensive runoff elections. This saves taxpayer dollars, reduces voter fatigue, and encourages more civil, issue-focused campaigns.

Communities across the country have already adopted ranked choice voting with success. They’ve seen increased voter engagement, stronger representation, and reduced election costs. Our city deserves the same benefits.

Passing this resolution is a meaningful step toward modernizing our elections and ensuring our local government reflects the will of the people.
We respectfully ask that you support ranked-choice voting and vote “yes” on resolution R2025-0018786.

Sincerely,
Residents of Chicago
