Build Land Trust Homes in the West End

Atlanta City Council

Our friends at the Atlanta Land Trust are hard at work bringing new missing middle housing options (a duplex and 2 ADUs) to the West End. This project will deliver permanently affordable homeownership in a historic district at prices nearly half the going rate in the neighborhood. However, the property needs to be rezoned to allow these homes to get built. Despite this project receiving support from the neighborhood and NPU, Atlanta's Zoning Review Board recommended the City Council to block the proposed homes!

This project is now at risk, and we need your support! Add your name to this petition and let your councilors know that you support affordable land trust homes.

You can read the full details about the project here.

To the City Council of Atlanta,

We support the rezoning request that will allow for the Atlanta Land Trust’s development of the vacant lot at 879 White Street SW. We believe the project, a permanently affordable duplex and a single accessory dwelling structure with two additional permanently affordable units, advances the goals set forth in the West End Livable Centers Initiative Plan to:
1) “support new housing that is compatible with existing character of the area to enable long-standing residents to find quality, affordable housing in the community in the future” and
2) “support increased role of non-profit affordable housing partners such as the Atlanta Land Trust.”

We understand that offering multiple units allows ALT to provide more opportunities for home ownership at more affordable prices, creating options for more neighbors to build wealth and achieve stability.

Therefore, we support ALT’s effort to rezone the property from R-4A to R-5 to provide more affordable homes in West End.
