Build the California High Speed Rail Sooner!

The Governor Of California, State, County, and Local Elected officials:

The project is essential to the continued economic growth of California, combatting climate change, reducing traffic, and connecting Californians in a safe and efficient way.

California High Speed Rail is essential

When complete, California High Speed Rail will take passengers from Downtown San Francisco to Downtown Los Angeles in just 2 hours and 40 minutes, more than twice as fast as driving. High speed rail will operate exclusively on renewable energy and is estimated to remove 700,000 cars from roads annually, with a projected annual ridership of over 12 million on the San Francisco to Bakersfield section, and nearly 30 million passengers when the full San Francisco to Los Angeles section opens. Additionally, the High Speed Rail project is estimated to save over $100 billion compared to the road and air alternatives necessary to replicate high speed rail. Investing in high speed rail takes pressure off our freeways and airports, allowing California to spend money more efficiently.

The California High Speed Rail project has made significant progress

As of 2024, the entire San Francisco to Los Angeles high-speed rail route is environmentally approved. Additionally, work in the Central Valley is well underway, with 88% of its structures built or under construction and 79% of its total contract completed. The High Speed project has also made significant investments in the local transportation networks of the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and the Central Valley, creating new, safer, and faster transportation options. In the Bay Area, the High Speed Rail Authority invested over $700 million in the Caltrain Electrification project, resulting in train frequencies being doubled and ridership increasing by 76%. In Los Angeles, the High Speed Rail Authority provided $114 million in bonds for the Regional Connector project, unifying Metro’s light rail system and linking to the busiest railroad station in the Western United States. The High Speed Rail Authority also invested $76 million in the Rosecrans/Marquardt Grade Separation Project in Southern California, eliminating one of the most dangerous railroad crossings in the state. Just in the construction process alone, the High Speed Rail project has made an incredible impact on California, and is already delivering results to Californians.

Completing California High Speed Rail project faster is vital and requires strong support

California High Speed Rail is one of the largest infrastructure projects in American history and will create a cohesive, sustainable, statewide transportation network that will make the lives of tens of millions of Californians easier, connect Californians to opportunities, save Californians money, and help the environment. It is a pivotal piece in making our state more prosperous, accessible, and sustainable.
