Congressmember Derek Tran: Stand with Immigrants, Not ICE

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE DEREK TRAN

In his first 30 days in office, Congressmember Derek Tran voted to pass the Laken Riley Act. Despite being told by his own advisors, VietRISE, and countless constituents that this is a dangerous anti-immigrant bill that erodes due process rights for non citizens, Tran doubled down on his support for this bill on national TV and at town halls. Throughout the next several months, as hundreds of Vietnamese immigrants were detained and deported by ICE at rates we have never seen before, Tran was silent throughout it all. Now as ICE and Border Patrol raid LA and Orange County, the cities he represents, to violently arrest and terrorize immigrants, Tran voted yes with Republicans and 75 Democrats to “express gratitude to ICE.

Tran campaigned for his seat on his family’s Vietnamese refugee story, an experience we as Vietnamese Americans know all too well, and instead of defending our immigrant communities he continues to sign off on this administration’s attempts to rip immigrants from their homes and tear our families apart.

We deserve better than elected officials who look like us and use our story only to screw us over again and again.

Sign the petition to tell Congressmember Tran: Stand with Immigrants, not ICE!

Denounce your support for the anti-immigrant bills you voted on, then put your money where your mouth is. Take action to stop these raids and deportations and support our families.

We demand that Congressmember Derek Tran:

    • Issue a public apology for his previous anti-immigrant votes and statements.

    • Call for the release of all people unjustly imprisoned in ICE detention.

    • Commit to attending ICE check-ins with Vietnamese community members in Orange County.

    • Condemn and call for an end to all immigration enforcement raids happening in the US, especially OC and LA.

    • Host legal clinics and workshops to support immigrant community members.

    • Vote NO on all future anti-immigrant bills!

Dear Congressmember Tran,

As a constituent, I am deeply disappointed by your recent votes and public statements that align with anti-immigrant policies and narratives.

You campaigned as an immigration attorney and the son of Vietnamese refugees. But since entering office, your actions have betrayed immigrant communities and shown a clear disregard for due process. On June 9, you voted for a resolution expressing gratitude to ICE, an agency responsible for detaining and deporting members of our own community. Earlier this year, you supported the Laken Riley Act, a dangerous law that expands ICE’s powers, enables indefinite detention, including for those merely accused of crimes. These actions have real consequences, especially for Vietnamese families already under threat.

We are calling on you to:

- Issue a public apology for your harmful anti-immigrant votes and statements

- Demand the release of all people unjustly detained in ICE detention

- Attend ICE check-ins with Vietnamese community members in Orange County

- Publicly condemn immigration raids, especially those targeting communities in Orange County and Los Angeles

- Host legal clinics and provide direct support to impacted families

- Commit to voting NO on all future anti-immigrant legislation

You cannot claim to represent us while supporting policies that criminalize, detain, and deport our community members. I urge you to stand on the right side of history and take immediate action to support immigrant communities.
