Call for a national moratorium on AI data centre construction

AI data centres drive up local energy costs, threaten access to clean drinking water, serve the interests of tech oligarchs from the United States, and are largely unregulated by the federal government. We are calling for a pause on data centre construction until a national people-first AI strategy can be established.

This action would help protect people here in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.

I am writing as a concerned constituent of Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam to express concern about AI data centre construction in Canada. These AI data centres don't serve the interests of our communities. They increase price of energy, threaten access to clean drinking water, and serve the interests of US tech oligarchs.

Here in Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam, we want to put people first, not Artificial Intelligence.
