With the recent efforts reignited to solidify a legitimized LGBTQ+ club at Walsh University, one thing has been made abundantly clear – Walsh lacks resources, acceptance, and inclusionary practices for its LGBTQ+ population.

For years, students have advocated for having an LGBTQ+ club at Walsh and have sought a place at the table for its queer community. With pushback from Walsh administration, there has been no success and no response. If Walsh University does not want to admit to their discriminatory actions, they need to at least be transparent about their clear discrimination of LGBTQ+ students including failing to provide resources for them.

The purpose of this petition is to call on Walsh University to allow and accept an LGBTQ+ safe space club on their campus and to give that club the emotional and financial support. We are simply asking for the same support given to all other clubs on campus. Without a safe community for LGBTQ students at Walsh, students find themselves isolated, alone, excluded and rejected from the overall campus community.

As Walsh University pushes their commitment to community, diversity, and inclusivity, the LGBTQ student population must not be forgotten or overlooked. LGBTQ+ students, who pay their tuition just like cis-gendered heterosexual students, are not supported OR protected by the administration like their cis-gendered and heterosexual peers.
