Governor Hochul: New Yorkers Need Care Not Corruption!

Governor Kathy Hochul

Petition: Governor Hochul! New Yorkers Need Care Not Corruption

Governor Hochul has prioritized billionaires and corporations over aging adults, people with disabilities, home care workers, and family caregivers across New York State. She's let private insurance companies pocket billions of our Medicaid dollars and sold out the popular Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) to a private-equity backed corporation. She has left our communities scrambling to survive amidst a skyrocketing cost-of-living while New York faces devastating federal cuts to home care and Medicaid.

The Care Not Corruption platform outlined below will propel us towards a New York where caregivers can thrive, and all New Yorkers—no matter who they are—have access to the health and home care they need.

Read the letter below and sign our petition to demand that Governor Hochul delivers a Care Not Corruption agenda for ALL New Yorkers.

Dear Governor Hochul,

You often say, “Your family is my fight.” But when it comes to 100,000s of aging adults, people with disabilities, home care workers, and family caregivers across New York State, your actions have told a different story.

You’ve turned your back on the everyday people you represent while protecting the profits of billionaires and corporations. You’ve let private insurance companies and private equity-backed corporations pocket billions of our Medicaid dollars – especially indefensible at a time when the cost-of-living has skyrocketed and New York faces devastating federal cuts to home care and Medicaid.

You have left our communities scrambling to survive while corporate interests thrive. You’ve also put the Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP)—a popular home care program that allows people to hire a loved one or trusted caregiver—in peril. By handing CDPAP over to private equity–backed corporation, PPL, you’ve unleashed a year of chaos:

–200,000 workers and nearly 100,000 older and disabled New Yorkers driven out of one of New York’s most essential home care programs
–Broken systems, stolen paychecks, and mounting scandals
–People losing the care they need to stay in their homes and communities, and workers unable to pay their bills

This is NOT leadership. At a time like this, you should be fighting for us instead of doing the bidding of billionaires. That means delivering for everyday New Yorkers and adopting a Care Not Corruption agenda.

The Care Not Corruption Platform:
1) Stop handing billions in Medicaid dollars to private equity and private insurance crooks.
2) Support the Home Care Savings & Reinvestment Act to eliminate private insurance middlemen and reinvest savings directly into home care wages and care.
3) Support Fair Pay for Home Care so that workers can earn a dignified living, alleviating New York’s home care shortage so people can receive the home care they deserve.
4) End the PPL monopoly and restore choice to CDPAP by reinstating trusted fiscal intermediaries.
5) Tax the Rich to invest in our care and prevent Medicaid cuts.

If our families are truly your fight, Governor Hochul, it’s time to fight for Care Not Corruption! New Yorkers want a Governor who looks out for us, not for billionaires and corporations.

Sincerely,
