Support festivals that can be joyful, less polluting, healthy, and safe for all of Kolkata!

West Bengal Government, West Bengal Pollution Control Board, Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India

Kolkata delta’s festivals are meant to be about joy, lights, music, and togetherness. But
deafening noise and choking smoke are hurting people, pets, and the environment. From
sleepless nights to stressed dogs and birds, from rising health risks to polluted air—we’re
paying too high a price for “celebration.” Let’s keep the joy alive without harming our city
or each other.

We call for authorities to:
1. Turn down the volume: Decrease the use of high-decibel firecrackers, DJ boxes, or amplifiers beyond safe limits.
2. Enforce the law: Apply noise and air pollution rules all year, especially during festivals.
3. Protect livelihoods, not pollution: Redirect state government funds (currently given to neighborhood clubs) into a budget that helps firecracker workers transition to safe, sustainable jobs.
4. Give citizens a voice: Create a community alert system so violations can be reported and acted upon quickly.
