Class of the Phoenix: A Declaration of Medical Solidarity With Gaza’s Graduates
Medical, Educational Community and Supporters Worldwide
We, the doctors, nurses, medical workers, educators, and all supporters all over the world, congratulate the Gaza medical graduates—Class of the Phoenix on their extraordinary and historic achievement.
Graduating from medical school is a demanding intellectual and clinical accomplishment under the best of circumstances. To complete medical training in Gaza, amid siege, the destruction of hospitals and universities, mass casualties, displacement, and the constant threat to life, is nothing short of miraculous. Your achievement reflects academic excellence, extraordinary discipline, resilience, and moral commitment to the practice of medicine.
You trained while treating the wounded, learning anatomy while hospitals were attacked, studying while colleagues were killed, detained, or forced to flee. Yet you persisted. In doing so, you have demonstrated a level of clinical readiness, ethical clarity, and professional rigor that exceeds global standards of medical education.
We celebrate you as peers. You are part of the global medical profession, and your success strengthens medicine everywhere.
At the same time, our celebration is inseparable from our responsibility. We cannot honor new graduates while ignoring the ongoing detention, abduction, and targeting of healthcare workers in Gaza. The incarceration of doctors, nurses, and medical students violates international law and the foundational principles of medical neutrality. We affirm, unequivocally: healthcare workers must be protected, never punished for providing care.
As an international medical, educational and all supporters' community, we commit to:
Recognizing Gaza’s medical graduates as colleagues of the highest caliber
Demanding the immediate release and protection of detained healthcare workers
Defending medical education, hospitals, and healthcare systems as civilian infrastructure
Refusing the normalization of attacks on healthcare anywhere in the world
To the Gaza medical graduates: Class of the Phoenix:
you embody the future of medicine forged under fire. We stand with you. We will not forget your teachers. We will not abandon your detained colleagues. And we will continue to speak, organize, and act until medicine is protected and justice is upheld.
