CLEAN AIR IS A HUMAN RIGHT - DEMAND EPA DO THEIR JOB TO PROTECT ALL COMMUNITIES FROM AIR POLLUTION
Lee Zeldin, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Clean air is a human right, not a privilege. Yet, over half of people across the U.S. - including over 78 million people of color - breathe dirty air. Air pollution – like soot and smog – comes from many sources such as power plants, cars and trucks, and harms human health and the environment. People with less money, communities of color, and Indigenous people face the greatest exposure to air pollution leading to higher rates of asthma, heart and lung conditions, cancer, child development issues, and premature death.
Under President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we face some of the greatest environmental and health rollbacks of the last 50 years, including threats to clean air protections that put our families, friends, and loved ones at risk. We are holding the line to keep our communities – and all neighborhoods across the country – healthy and safe.
Since 2022, the Clean Air for the Long Haul, a coalition of environmental justice organizations from across the U.S., have mobilized by sharing letters, testimonies, and public comments urging the EPA to adopt better clean air standards. Through our advocacy, we achieved some of the strongest, most health-protective clean air standards in history. Now, the protections we fought hard for are under attack. We need your help to hold Trump’s EPA accountable to its mission to protect our health and future.

Under the Trump administration, the EPA’s efforts to roll back clean air protections have failed the Agency’s mission to “protect human health and the environment.” These short-sighted, dangerous actions ignore science and neglect our needs, sacrificing our health and lives in favor of billionaires and polluting industries. The result will be dirtier air, preventable illnesses, lost workdays, higher family health costs, and millions of lives lost.
Already vulnerable communities across the U.S. are feeling these consequences first and worst. Low-income, Indigenous, and communities of color are more exposed to air pollution, leading to higher rates of asthma, lung disease, heart attacks, pre-term births, and avoidable deaths.
We want and need stronger smog, mercury and air toxics, soot, and climate pollution protections from the cars, trucks, power plants, and other industries making us sick and cutting lives short. Stronger clean air protections could prevent an estimated 30,000 deaths and save $275 billion each year (AP, 2025). Instead, with your targeted rollbacks of clean air protections, the EPA is putting these health benefits at risk.
Alongside this administration unlawfully firing staff and clawing back life-saving community investments, these rollbacks will make unfair health harms even worse for environmental justice communities dealing with decades of neglect and poison dumped into our shared air, water, and land.
Regardless of the color of our skin, how much we make, or where we live, the EPA must fulfill its mission under the law to safeguard our environment and health. We need you to make sure the Environmental “Protection” Agency actually protects us.
You cannot continue to put the health of our families, neighbors, and communities at risk. Clean air is a human right, not a privilege. Everyone deserves to breathe clean air and to live safely without compromise. We dare to breathe!
