These fuel economy standards have been the most effective cost savers for US drivers and consumers. They have incentivized auto makers to build cleaner, more efficient cars that save families money (transportation accounts for 15% of average household spending!)

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has traditionally used the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards to drive innovation that saves people money at the pump, makes cars go further on every gallon of gas, drives down pollution and protect our health. Weakening them further hurts our economic well-being at a time when families are already burdened by rising costs. Fuel economy standards ensure that auto makers have the certainty to invest in advanced manufacturing here in the United States.
Turning the clock back on fuel economy standards and locking us into higher prices at the pump would exacerbate the current affordability crisis crushing American families and their budgets. Your proposal fails to meet your mission to ensure the safest, most efficient, modern, and accessible transportation system.
