CMAE Petition for Pay and Respect
CMS leadership, CMS Board of Education, and Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners
CMS educators have made their needs clear: we must have increased pay, full staffing, and fundamental respect to retain staff and maintain our student-centered classrooms and worksites.
These priorities align with the district's Pillars of Excellence and are substantiated by the classified market study commissioned and funded by CMS itself. It's time for action!
We must stand together to achieve wage increases and a seat at the table where crucial educational decisions are made. Our educators deserve nothing less.
We demand immediate action from district leadership, the School Board, and the Board of County Commissioners to meet the critical needs of CMS staff via the following action items:

Wage Increase:
It is imperative that the wages of classified CMS staff be raised to a minimum of $20 an hour, aligning with the starting salary of Mecklenburg County employees. Our dedicated staff deserve a living wage for their hard work and dedication to our schools.
Highest Local Supplement:
We demand that CMS increase the local supplement to the highest in the state, as pledged. Furthermore, we call for the county supplement to be increased for staff in years 15+ as the state provides no annual salary increases to these long-serving staff members.
Educator Representation:
We call on the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board to immediately add a non-voting CMS Educator School Board Representative. This individual should serve a two-year term and be elected by the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Committee. This role would be similar in all ways to the CMS School Board Student Representative. It is time for educators to have a seat at the table!
