DC 37 Rank and File Members Demand an End to Police Violence

DC 37 Leadership

DC 37 RANK-AND-FILE,

The NYPD shot one of our own and our leadership has been SILENT.

Gregory Delpeche, an emergency room administrator at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, in the Health + Hospitals chapter of local 1549, DC 37, was on his way to work when he was shot in the head by the NYPD. On Sunday, September 15, Two NYPD officers chased a community member onto a train car at the Sutter Avenue L train station for evading the $2.90 fare. After needless escalation, the officers committed a mass shooting, firing 9 shots on the platform and into the train cars. Their bullets hit 4 people including one of the officers. Our fellow city worker, who's worked at Woodhull for 20 years, was sitting a few train cars away when he was shot, and he remains in critical condition.

Our union leadership has stayed silent despite calls by union membership to condemn police violence. While the city’s infrastructure crumbles, NYPD continues to guzzle our city's resources. Newly appointed NYPD Chiefs of Enforcement are taking leadership in our city agencies and the NYPD is renovating their Police Academy to the tune of at least $225 million. Meanwhile, our union leadership has rolled over on its back and allowed NYPD more control over all city services and over our workplaces.

Join us in demanding DC37 issue a statement condemning police violence.

As DC37 rank and file, we say NO MORE! WE are the union! We are the people who make NYC run, and we can either run the city for corrupt and cowardly leaders, or we can run NYC for all of us.

In light of the NYPD committing a mass shooting gravely injuring one of DC 37's own members, we demand that DC 37 leadership issue a statement condemning police violence.
