Give Nodaway County the Time to Get This Right
Nodaway County is home to us.
It is where many of us grew up, where our families have lived for generations, and where we have built our lives. Our communities were built around agriculture, hard work, and neighbors looking out for one another. For those of us with family farms, the connection to this land goes back generations.
That is why the proposed large-scale AI data center has so many people concerned.
This isn't about being against technology or refusing to let Nodaway County grow. We all understand that times change and that economic development can bring opportunities. But when a project is this large, we believe the county needs to slow down and make sure it fully understands what it could mean for the people who live here.
WE NEED GOOD INFORMATION BEFORE MAKING A BIG DECISION.
A data center of this size could have an impact on water, electricity, roads, traffic, noise, farmland, infrastructure, emergency services, neighboring property owners, agriculture, and the environment.
Those concerns deserve real answers.
Residents shouldn't have to rely only on information provided by a company or consultants working on its behalf. We need credible, independent information that the public can review and understand.
People should be able to ask questions, look at the facts, hear different perspectives, and have a genuine opportunity to be involved before a decision is made.
Taking more time isn't being anti-development. It's being careful with a decision that could affect our community for a very long time.
SOME DECISIONS CAN'T EASILY BE UNDONE.
Once farmland is converted to industrial use, it is difficult to reverse.
Once major infrastructure is built, it changes the area around it.
And once a large-scale development is approved, it can set the direction for what comes next.
That doesn't mean development should never happen. It means we should understand what we're agreeing to before we make that commitment.
Many of us will still be here decades from now. Our children and grandchildren may be here too.
We should make this decision with them in mind.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR
We are asking the Nodaway County Commissioners to:
- Extend the current moratorium on data center development.
- Conduct an independent and comprehensive review of the potential environmental, economic, agricultural, infrastructure, and community impacts.
- Use credible third-party information when evaluating claims about the proposed development.
- Give residents a meaningful opportunity to participate in the process.
- Establish reasonable protections for farmland, water resources, property owners, infrastructure, and surrounding communities.
- Set clear requirements for future expansion so that decisions made today don't automatically determine what happens tomorrow.
THIS IS ABOUT DOING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY.
We believe Nodaway County can grow and pursue new economic opportunities without losing sight of what makes this place special.
But before moving forward with a project of this magnitude, we need transparency, good information, careful planning, and time to listen to the people who will actually live with the outcome.
The companies involved may eventually move on to their next project.
We will still be here.
We'll still be driving these roads, farming these fields, raising our families, running our businesses, and living in these communities.
That's why we are asking our county commissioners to take the time to get this right.
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION
If you believe Nodaway County should have time to fully understand the potential impacts of large-scale data center development, please sign this petition.
This isn't about shutting the door on progress.
It's about making sure we don't open that door without knowing what comes with it.
Our families have spent generations building lives here. We believe this decision deserves that same level of care and consideration.
Please sign, share this petition, and make your voice heard.
EXTEND THE MORATORIUM.
STUDY THE IMPACTS.
LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE.

We should make this decision as a community with them in mind. Decisions should not be made behind closed doors where the voices of the people cannot be heard. If NDAs were never signed, then why are local officials being so secretive? What do you know that the citizens of Nodaway County do not know?
