DEMAND REPRESENTATION: Hold Senate District 26/House District 70 Special Elections This Spring

Governor Sanders is denying an estimated 100,000 Arkansans in the River Valley and Central Arkansas their right to representation in the legislature. We demand that the special election for Senate District 26, which contains parts of Franklin, Johnson, Logan, and Sebastian counties, and House District 70, which contains part of Pulaski County, be held this spring, as is normal.

By delaying the special election for the vacant Senate and House seats until Summer 2026, voters in these communities will have no voice during the 2026 fiscal session — when prison funding and other critical budget decisions will be made. If the Governor calls a special session, they will not have a say in whatever issues will be discussed.

Governor Hutchinson held special elections for vacant seats within three months of the vacancy twice. This timeline will keep these Arkansans without representation for six months. Why do they have to wait so long?

This is outrageous and unfair. Every Arkansan deserves a seat at the table when billions in taxpayer dollars, including funding for a massive prison project in their district, are on the line.


Arkansans cannot and will not accept disenfranchisement when our future is being decided.
