DEMAND REPRESENTATION: Hold Senate District 26 Special Election This Spring

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Governor Sanders is denying an estimated 86,000 Arkansans in the River Valley their right to representation in the legislature.
We demand that the special election for Senate District 26, which contains parts of Franklin, Johnson, Logan, and Sebastian counties, be held this spring, as is normal.

By delaying the special election for the vacant Senate seat in District 26 until November 2026, voters in Franklin County and surrounding communities will have no voice during the 2026 fiscal session — when prison funding and other critical budget decisions will be made. If she calls a special session, they will not have a say in whatever issues will be discussed.

Governor Hutchinson held special elections for vacant seats within three months of the vacancy. This timeline will keep the Arkansans of District 26 without representation for over a year. Why does District 26 have to wait so long?

This is outrageous and unfair. Every Arkansan deserves a seat at the table when billions in taxpayer dollars, including funding for a massive prison project in their district, are on the line.

Arkansans cannot and will not accept disenfranchisement when our future is being decided.

Add your name to demand a fair election, on time, and full representation for the people of Senate District 26.

Dear Governor Sanders,

We are Arkansas residents concerned about the timeline of the special election for Senate District 26. Previous special elections have been held within three months of a vacancy; this timeline denies our neighbors in the River Valley representation for over a year at a time when critical decisions about their district are being made.

I'm writing to you to request that you hold the special election the upcoming spring so that Arkansas voters will have a say in how their money is spent. This delay is undemocratic and unworthy of our Natural State.
