What is Re:SET?

Re:SET Chicago is a music festival attempting to shut down Riis Park in June. After residents found out this event has been planned since early 2022, with no community engagement, they started a campaign to stop the music festival.

Residents are concerned about this fest for the following reasons:

  1. Parking. Only about 85 tickets were purchased by residents in the 60639, 60641, or 60634 residents. Thousands of other people will be driving and parking on our residential streets so they don’t have to pay the expensive Uber rates. Paying the $100 parking ticket is cheaper than what they would pay for a taxi.
  2. Will there be enough police to keep our community and festival goers safe? Local police will be sent to the Taste of Humboldt Park and Pride Fest in Lake View and our neighborhood will have an even slower police response.
  3. Our families will not be able to use the park in the highest demand season. Re:fest didn’t say they would pay for repairs to the park and we don’t know how long those repairs would take after the music festival damages our fields.
  4. The environmental impact on the plants and wildlife of the park will be immense. We have a beautiful lagoon, birds, and wildlife that will be impacted by the noise and garbage that festival goers usually leave behind.

Dear Alderperson Cruz,

I am a resident of the 30th Ward, and I am urging you to deny the permit for Re:Set Fest.

I am concerned about this fest for the following reasons:

- Parking.

- Will there be enough police to keep our community and festival goers safe? Local police will be sent to the Taste of Humboldt Park and Pride Fest in Lake View and our neighborhood will have an even slower police response.

- Our families will not be able to use the park in the highest demand season. Re:fest didn’t say they would pay for repairs to the park and we don’t know how long those repairs would take after the music festival damages our fields.

- The environmental impact on the plants and wildlife of the park will be immense. We have a beautiful lagoon, birds, and wildlife that will be impacted by the noise and garbage that festival goers usually leave behind.

Alderperson Cruz you campaigned as a progressive and on listening to residents, and her support of this secretive music festival is exactly what the former Alderman would have done.

Thank you.
