Dollar General: Offer Paper Drinking Cups
Todd Vasos, CEO, Dollar General Corporation
Dollar General executives should prioritize the health of Missourians and Missouri’s natural resources by offering alternatives to disposable plastic and Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam cups. Not long ago, paper cups were the standard disposable option, and Missourians deserve the ability to choose paper over plastic.
Plastic and EPS beverage cups are currently the primary disposable cup options available at Dollar General stores in Missouri. Plastic and EPS, commonly known as Styrofoam™, are linked to negative human health impacts, especially when used for hot, acidic, or fatty beverages. These materials are also largely not recyclable, create a burden on municipal waste systems, and too often end up in Missouri’s landscape where they harm livestock, wildlife, fish, and birds.
