Don't back down on Missing Middle

Arlington County Board

Sign reading won't you be my neighbor

On Friday, September 27, a judge overturned Arlington's Expanded Housing Options Ordinance on the grounds that the County failed to properly study potential impacts and advertise the zoning change. The ruling puts the grievances of a few homeowners above the needs of the entire community, in light of Arlington's extreme housing shortage, and the legacy of exclusionary zoning. We call on the Arlington County Board to immediately begin the process to re-pass this essential legislation.

I ask that you remain resolved to end exclusionary zoning in Arlington and allow for the gentle density that will permit more attainable homes to be built throughout our neighborhoods. The public process in the Missing Middle Housing Study was robust and inclusive. The unanimous decision by the County Board in March of 2023 was sound, and reflected the will of the people. Please do not delay in moving forward to pass the EHO Ordinance again.
