Don’t Let Fossil Fuel Lobbyists Obstruct COP 30 Negotiations
COP 30 Country Delegations
2025 is already on track to be one for the record books, but we’ve just broken another alarming climate precedent.
The Kick Big Polluters Out coalition just revealed that a record-breaking 1,600-plus fossil fuel lobbyists are in attendance at the United Nation’s COP 30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil – outnumbering nearly every country delegation.
Meanwhile, frontline communities and Indigenous peoples that face the worst of the climate crisis are still underrepresented in these high stakes talks.
The oil and gas companies that these lobbyists represent have one goal: To keep burning the fossil fuels that line their pockets.
By infiltrating COP delegations from countries around the world, they’re doing all they can to delay the global energy transition and stymie our progress.
Send an urgent message to your COP 30 country delegation: Don’t let fossil fuel lobbyists interfere with climate negotiations in Belém.
Climate Reality will deliver the letter to COP 30 country delegations on behalf of the signatories and share the total number of signers globally and the countries represented. To protect those who live in countries where they may not feel comfortable speaking up to their government, no personal information will be shared with letter recipients.

Recently, over 6,000 members of the Climate Reality’s global network called on countries to show true climate leadership and commit to keeping fossil fuel industry representatives off of their COP 30 delegation.
With COP 30 already underway, we are deeply troubled by a new report revealing that record-breaking 1,600-plus fossil fuel lobbyists are in attendance in Belém, Brazil – outnumbering every country delegation other than Brazil. With roughly one in 25 participants representing oil, coal, and gas companies, this marks the largest share of fossil fuel delegates ever recorded at these UN climate summits.
By allowing fossil fuel interests to interfere in negotiations, it undermines the credibility of the COP process. Granting fossil fuel lobbyists credentials and access to negotiation rooms runs counter to the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.
Parties to the Paris Agreement recognized the role of fossil fuels as the primary driver of the climate crisis at COP 28, by calling for a transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly, and equitable manner.
While nearly every country delegation has given fossil fuel lobbyists a seat at the table, you still have the opportunity to prove your commitment to a fair and sustainable energy transition that brings cheap clean energy to billions. That’s why we’re calling on you to keep these fossil fuel representatives out of official COP 30 discussions.
To reach the goals of the Paris Agreement, we must cut greenhouse gas emissions nearly in half by 2030 relative to 2019 levels and put the world on a pathway limiting warming. When delegations include individuals with a personal stake in fossil fuel expansion, they only undermine our progress toward the Paris Agreement goals and put a livable planet further out of reach.
With only a few days remaining to make COP 30 a success, we’re calling on you to demonstrate real global leadership and shut out fossil fuel industry representatives from official climate negotiations – at COP 30 and beyond.
