DSCC: Stand with District 4 and Endorse Matt Gromlich

Members of the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee

Earlier this election cycle, the Louisiana Democratic Party made the controversial decision to endorse a candidate in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District before Democratic voters had the opportunity to participate in the scheduled closed primary.

For many voters, that decision felt like the party was making a choice that the primary process was supposed to leave to Democratic voters themselves.

But that primary never happened.

Louisiana’s congressional elections changed. The previously scheduled closed primary was canceled, candidates were required to qualify again, the field changed, and the November 3 congressional election will now be conducted under Louisiana’s open-primary system.

The Democratic State Central Committee now has an opportunity to evaluate this race as it exists today.

Since announcing his campaign, Matt Gromlich has continued traveling throughout District 4, building relationships, organizing volunteers, developing parish-level leadership, and creating a grassroots coalition designed not simply to participate in this election, but to compete.

He has also demonstrated something especially important in this district: an ability to connect with voters beyond the traditional Democratic electorate. Matt’s campaign is bringing together Democrats, No Party voters, progressives, moderates, and Republicans around practical, community-focused leadership.

A Democrat cannot win District 4 by talking only to Democrats. Building a coalition across communities and party lines is a critical part of any realistic path to victory.

By signing this petition, you are asking members of the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee to recognize the campaign and coalition Matt has built and vote to endorse Matt Gromlich for Congress in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District.

Your signature tells DSCC members:

  • District 4 voters deserve to have their voices heard.
  • Grassroots organizing and demonstrated community support should matter in the endorsement process.
  • Democrats need a candidate capable of expanding the coalition beyond traditional Democratic voters.
  • Matt Gromlich has done the work to earn the party’s support.
  • The DSCC should vote to endorse Matt Gromlich for Congress.

We, the undersigned voters, volunteers, and supporters across Louisiana respectfully ask you to vote to endorse Matt Gromlich for Congress in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District.

The circumstances surrounding this election have changed significantly since the DSCC made its previous endorsement decision. We ask you to evaluate this race based on the campaign that exists today and the work that has been done across District 4.

Since entering the race, Matt Gromlich has built his campaign from the ground up.

He has traveled throughout District 4, listened to voters, built relationships in communities across Northwest, Central, and Southwest Louisiana, recruited and organized volunteers, developed parish-level leadership, and created a growing grassroots operation focused on meeting voters where they are.

Matt has not simply asked Democrats to support him because he has a “D” beside his name.

He has worked to earn that support.

As an educator, researcher, and problem solver, Matt has centered his campaign on listening to people and developing practical solutions to the challenges Louisiana families and communities are facing.

Matt also brings a professional background that translates directly to the serious work required of a member of Congress. As a professor with a doctoral degree and a record of published research, he has spent his career evaluating evidence, analyzing complex information, developing well-supported arguments, and communicating those ideas clearly.

These are critical skills for reviewing legislation, questioning assumptions, weighing competing claims, understanding the consequences of policy decisions, and effectively defending the interests of the people he represents.

District 4 does not simply need someone who can win an election. We need someone prepared to do the work once elected.

Just as importantly, Matt has demonstrated an ability to build support across party lines.

His campaign is connecting with Democrats, No Party voters, progressives, moderates, Republicans, and people who may not agree with the Democratic Party on every issue but are looking for practical, community-focused leadership.

In District 4, that matters.

A Democrat cannot win this district by speaking only to Democrats. Winning requires a candidate who can energize Democratic voters while also earning the trust of people who do not traditionally vote for Democratic candidates.

Matt is already doing that work.

He is building relationships with working families, educators, veterans and military communities, small-business owners, young voters, civic leaders, and people who simply believe their representative should listen to them, show up in their communities, and work to solve problems.

That kind of coalition building is a critical part of any realistic path to victory in District 4.

The Democratic Party should recognize and strengthen the grassroots organization and broad coalition that have already been built across this district.

We ask DSCC members to look at what has happened on the ground.

Look at the volunteers organizing in communities across the district.

Look at the parish-level infrastructure being built.

Look at the voters Matt is reaching beyond the traditional Democratic electorate.

Look at the campaign that has continued to show up, listen, organize, and grow.

We respectfully ask every member of the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee to vote to endorse Matt Gromlich for Congress in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District.

Let this endorsement recognize the support Matt has earned through organizing and hard work.

Let it strengthen the coalition already being built across District 4.

And let Louisiana Democrats move forward behind a candidate who is doing the work necessary not only to represent our values, but to expand our coalition and compete for every vote.

Stand with District 4.

ENDORSE MATT GROMLICH FOR CONGRESS.
