Stop Pay-for-Clicks at The Sacramento Bee
Tony Hunter, CEO, McClatchy; Lauren Gustus, Editor and Publisher, The Sacramento Bee
The Sacramento Bee Guild is in bargaining with McClatchy, the newspaper's owner. The company is trying to tie journalists' pay to the number of clicks their stories get.
The company's proposal would encourage journalists to focus on sensationalism, not the quality journalism on which our community depends.
The guild is fighting the company's proposal.
We can't do it alone. Our company needs to hear from you. Sign this petition and stand with the journalists of The Sacramento Bee.

Dear Mr. Hunter and Ms. Gustus:
I value local journalism, and that’s why I support The Sacramento Bee. The Bee’s journalists produce in-depth, quality journalism and cover the stories that matter to me and my community.
I was disturbed to hear McClatchy's leadership is pushing to evaluate and pay journalists based on the clicks their stories get and other metrics. I come to The Bee for smart analysis, breaking news and stories that hold local and state officials to account. Not the sensationalism this proposal would encourage.
Now, more than ever, we need local journalism that’s dedicated to quality. Please maintain that focus and keep pay-for-clicks out of The Bee’s pay structure.
Sincerely,
Supporters of The Sacramento Bee
