The Varsity Spending Plan Petition

It is time for Nashville to implement innovative programs that truly build safe communities and get to the root causes of gun violence.

This Varsity Spending Plan includes a $10 million investment into Youth in Nashville, alternatives to youth arrest and jails, and community based safety to reduce gun violence and foster safe and healthy communities.

Our Varsity Spending Plan was developed by our young people (ages 14 - 18) and community members via participatory budgeting.

The Varsity Spending Plan is a $10 million investment in young people, families, and communities in Nashville that builds safer communities, addresses gun violence, and reduces our reliance on arrests, courts, and jails. The Varsity Spending Plan includes:

  1. $4 million to increase community center programming (and an Restorative Justice person on staff) at Hartman Park Community Center, Hadley Park Community Center, Easley Center at Rose Park, Looby Community Center, Antioch Community Center, Napier Community Center, Watkins Community Center, and East Regional Center.

  2. $4 million to create an Office of Youth Safety that is responsible for piloting a non-police and non-courts alternatives to jails and police to address gun violence, prevent harm, and foster safe communities.

  3. $2 million for a comprehensive restorative justice program in local high schools - that includes a full-time staff person dedicated exclusively to the restorative justice program - at Bass Alternative Learning Center, East Nashville High School, Maplewood High School, Pearl Cohn High School, Stratford High School, and Whites Creek High School.

It is time for Nashville to pass the Varsity Spending Plan to create safer communities, address gun violence, and invest in families and communities in Nashville.
