Elected leaders: hold Musk’s DOGE Accountable!

US Congress

Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a disaster.

They promised DOGE would save U.S. taxpayers trillions. Instead, it cost us all money1, destroyed vital agencies2, left tens of thousands of dedicated public servants jobless3, gutted regulation, exposed the personal data of nearly every American4, and resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people5.

Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a disaster.

They promised DOGE would save U.S. taxpayers trillions. Instead, it cost us all money, destroyed vital agencies, left tens of thousands of dedicated public servants jobless, gutted regulation, exposed the personal data of nearly every American, and resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

Our government must operate with transparency and within the rule of law –– and DOGE staff must be held accountable for the harm they caused. Significant allegations have been made that implicate DOGE leaders and staff in potentially criminal behavior. The American public deserves to know what happened to our personal data and we deserve a full accounting of DOGE’s actions.

We, the undersigned people and organizations, call upon you, our Members of Congress, to hold Musk and DOGE leaders accountable by completing the following actions:

1. Lead investigations into any potential criminal behavior on the part of DOGE officials or staff, including but not limited to:
- Illegally accessing or misusing Americans’ sensitive data
- Illegally accessing or misusing sensitive government data, especially for purposes benefiting private individuals or entities
- Misuse of Social Security data, especially storing sensitive data on private servers, sharing of data with outside groups, and other misappropriation of Social Security data
- Termination, reassignment or intimidation of federal employees, especially employees involved in the regulation of businesses related to DOGE officials or personnel
- Alleged exfiltration of sensitive personal data of Americans who reported unfair labor practices with the National Labor Relations Board

2. A review of federal contracts approved by DOGE officials or benefitting businesses in which DOGE officials and personnel have material interest to ensure those contracts meet the highest ethical and legal standards.

3. Investigations into AI programs deployed in federal agencies by DOGE to review possible risks to the mission or security of the federal government, as well as potential conflicts of interest or corrupt behavior in the contracting process.
