Emergency Petition: Demand Secretary Mullin Three Years of Protection for All TPS Holders

Secretary Markwayne Mullin - Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has created the greatest de-documentation emergency in U.S. history. A million and a half Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders are being stripped of their protections as part of the administration’s anti-immigrant program. The Supreme Court decision on Haitian and Syrian TPS sets a precedent for judicial review that will likely strip protections from all TPS nationals.

The impact on the TPS community, including hundreds of thousands of citizen children is dire: families in economic ruin, welfare and charity burdens, a mental health crisis, degradation of industry from loss of labor, and losses to tax and social security revenue in the billions.

Starting in the first Trump administration, TPS holders have lobbied for maintaining protections and a path to residency. With this loss of protections, however, they are now exposed to detention and deportation making it unsafe to speak out. It is time for citizens to act.

Secretary Markwayne Mullin has the power to extend protections to all TPS holders. TPS holders should not lose their livelihoods while legal and legislative battles continue. Emergency protections are needed while permanent solutions are pursued.

Join community leaders and allies from around the country in standing in solidarity with TPS holders. Demand that Secretary Mullin extends protections for TPS holder for at-least three years.

The Supreme Court’s decision on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti and Syria makes one thing undeniable: hundreds of thousands of people who have lived lawfully in this country for years now face the loss of work authorization, detention, and deportation. More than 300,000 U.S. citizen children could be separated from their families and forced into the social services system.

For decades, TPS holders have built families, businesses, and deep roots in our communities. Yet, they continue to live from one fragile court decision to the next. TPS holders are our neighbors: they are workers, homeowners, parents, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and small business owners. Ending TPS harms local economies, separates families, and destabilizes communities. Communities across the country rely on the contributions of TPS holders every day.

Secretary Mullin, we call on you to use your administrative discretion to provide humanitarian relief by extending legal protections for all TPS holders for at least two years. TPS holders should not lose their livelihoods while legal and legislative battles continue. Emergency protections are essential while permanent solutions are pursued.
