End Ticket Scams - Support Fair Ticketing in CA

CA State Legislature and Governor

The "secondary" ticket market has tormented fans and artists for too long. Fans and consumers are often locked out of tickets at initial on-sale and forced to turn to resale platforms which can be many multiples of the price the artist intended. Brokers use deceptive URLs, paid advertisements, and unauthorized venue, festival, and artist imagery to make consumers think they are buying from the source. Resellers are known to sell "spec" tickets to shows that haven't gone on sale and tickets that don't actually exist.

California concertgoers deserve a ticket marketplace that is fair, transparent, and safe—one where real fans are prioritized over bots, speculators, and scammers. Today’s ticketing system too often drives up prices, misleads consumers, and makes live music less accessible for the very people who support it.

I'm adding my voice to Fan Alliance's message to California lawmakers to enact the following legislative fixes to restore affordability and fairness in the concert ticket market:

• Cap Resale Prices. The Fans First Act (Assembly Bill 1720) would cap resale prices at face value plus reasonable fee. The easiest way to end scalping and profiteering is by capping the price of resale tickets. Fans should not be subjected to extreme markups simply for wanting to attend a show.

• Ban Speculative Ticketing. Assembly Bill 1349 would ban “spec” tickets that resellers they don't actually possess, which leads to price inflation, potential fraud, and disrupts the artist-fan relationship. The bill's requirement that ticket sellers must own, possess, or have contractual rights to sell tickets before listing them is crucial to maintaining marketplace integrity and consumer protections,

Live music is a vital part of California's cultural life. These commonsense reforms would protect fans, discourage predatory practices, and help ensure that concerts remain accessible to the people who love them most.

We urge you to support both of these important bills.
