End to IGSA

Mayor Jerry L. Demings, Nicole Wilson: District 1, Christine Moore: District 2, Mayra Uribe: District 3, Maribel Gomez Cordero: District 4, Kelly Martinez Semrad: District 5 Mike Scott: District 6

Terminate IGSA in Orange County

The Intergovernmental Service Agreement between Orange County and the U.S. Marshals service should be terminated, not just simply delaying the terms of the agreement to April 21st. For the the second time now the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners have pushed back negotiations with a new wave of excuses.

On March 10th, the Board of Orange County Commissioners passed a resolution to not allow warehouses within county limits to be turned into detention centers for immigration enforcement. We recognize that this is a step in the right direction; however, the reality is that a significant portion of the immigration detainment is happening through our county jails.

It is not enough for the IGSA agreement to be postponed for economic reasons. We want the board of Orange County Commissioners and mayor to recognize that they have a duty to serve all the residents of Orange County, including our immigrant neighbors who are impacted by these agreements.

Orange County using the tax-payer dollar jails to hold immigrants creates distrust with local leaders, and chaotic situations for the families affected by the federal immigration crackdown. We do not want our county institutions to be used to cooperate with ICE.

Therefore, we the undersigned demand that the Orange County Mayor and commissioners vote to withdraw from the IGSA agreement with the U.S. Marshals.
