Unlock the Power of Libraries – Restore Full Funding Now! Orange
The City of Orange

Libraries are the heart of our community—providing free access to books, education, technology, and safe spaces for families and students. But budget cuts are now threatening library access in Orange County.
As of January 20, 2025, the El Modena and Taft Library branches will see their hours cut by more than 50%, while the Orange Public Library & History Center will also reduce its Monday hours. These cuts will disproportionately impact students, families, and residents who rely on libraries for learning, internet access, and community programming.
This is unacceptable. Despite a $19.1 million budget deficit, libraries should not be on the chopping block. Reducing library hours limits job seekers, students, seniors, and working families who depend on these vital services.
We, the undersigned, demand that the City of Orange Government:
✅ Restore full library hours and protect public library funding.
✅ Prioritize community access over budget cuts to vital services.
✅ Work with EveryLibrary to find sustainable solutions using ballot initiatives for long-term library funding.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Orange to immediately restore full funding for Orange libraries and protect them from future budget cuts.
Libraries are the key to education, opportunity, and democracy. They provide free access to books, technology, career resources, and safe learning spaces for all residents—especially students, seniors, and job seekers. But now, that access is being restricted.
Due to budget cuts, library hours have been slashed:
‼️ El Modena & Taft branches have lost over 50% of their hours.
‼️ The Orange Public Library & History Center is now closing early on Mondays.
‼️ More cuts may be on the way.
A locked library is a locked opportunity.
Orange County residents should never be denied access to knowledge due to budget shortfalls. The city faces financial challenges, but reducing library hours hurts the very people who need these resources the most.
We, the undersigned, demand that the City of Orange:
✅ Fully restore library hours and funding to ensure equitable access.
✅ Commit to protecting library budgets in future fiscal plans.
✅ Work with EveryLibrary to develop sustainable, long-term funding solutions.
