While initial steps of addiction care may begin in an acute care treatment setting, recovery and healing really begin in communities.

Recovery Community Organizations play a key role in providing peer-based recovery supports and services. They provide peer-led, strength-based, person-centered programs provided by individuals with lived experience and they are governed by individuals in recovery. Recovery-based organizations such as Recovery Community Organizations, Recovery High Schools, Collegiate Recovery Programs, Alternative Peer Groups, Club-Houses & expanded mental health peer-based organizations need to be prioritized and supported across Texas.

As a person in recovery, family member, or ally of recovery I am signing this support statement today around policies that will expand equitable access to recovery support services for all in Texas.

I am having my voice heard in support of the following legislative solutions

House Bill 705 will enable Recovery Community Organizations to become Medicaid providers of peer recovery supports and services.

House Bill 898 Supports and sustains the operations of community recovery organizations.

House Bill 2595 Allows avenues to file insurance descrimination complaints for anyone experiencing inequitable mental health and addiction recovery benefits.

these bills were identified after listening to others in the recovery community.
