The undersigned employees of Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) request a return to the table with MNHS management and Local 3173 leadership to negotiate a fair cost of living increase for all, especially for the many employees who are not “on the {wage} grid.”

During negotiations, MNHS retained the right to pay “more than the listed base salary,” as outlined in Article 12, Section 1. The rationale stated in multiple sessions was related to retention, specifically retention of outstanding, potential employees (those that the management team referred to as “rock stars”). When management extends a higher starting wage offer based on an applicant's previous work experience and/or specific skills, a fair cost of living adjustment for all employees would also ensure retention of the institution's high quality, creative and dedicated employees. One of many benefits provided by a fair cost of living adjustment includes retention of seasoned employees, as well as a positive impact on MNHS's business performance and success.

We contribute to the public's high quality experience and MNHS's outstanding reputation as a quality institution. For these reasons, we would like to return to the table to resolve an inequity in good faith. Our Union remains ready to come to the table and ensure we help retain these talented, hard-working and dedicated MNHS employees.

In solidarity,
The Undersigned MNHS Staff
