Dear Andy Bell and Thinkery Executive Committee:

We, the undersigned members of the community, are concerned about the compensation and treatment of workers at the Thinkery. The Thinkery is an important Austin institution. We share their core values and believe in the company’s mission and goals. For example, the Thinkery states on your website the following core value: “We will amplify RESPECT by treating people with honor and dignity.”

However, the compensation and treatment of workers at the Thinkery does NOT reflect this value. It is impossible to have dignity when workers are not paid a living wage or provided with health care or sick days.

Consequently, we respectfully and formally request that Thinkery make immediate improvements to the pay and workplace policies. These demands allow the Thinkery to actually put their core values into practice by providing all workers with the wage needed to live in Austin as well as taking into account the additional duties and dangers assumed by these workers over the last year. Specifically, we support the workers' demands to:

-Immediately increase the starting base pay of the GSA position to $16/hr and raise the base pay of ALL hourly workers earning less than $16/hr to this base.

-Immediately implement a $2/hr hazard pay increase to the base wage for all hourly workers. The hazard pay increase will apply for any shift that is worked when Austin is in Stage 3 or above.

-Immediately provide the company standard benefits package to all workers.

-Engage in good-faith with the union about company policy and safety so that the workers have a say in the decision-making regarding shared working conditions.

Please provide a written response to these demands and distribute it to all Thinkery workers within one (1) week of receiving this petition and put these changes into effect no later than September 1st, 2021.
