Faith Leaders support Aston Waikiki Beach & Hotel Renew workers
Aqua-Aston Hospitality
Aloha:
We are calling on faith leaders to support the workers at the Aston Waikiki Beach and Hotel Renew, both managed by Aqua-Aston Hospitality. Since February 2015, these workers have been fighting for a fair process to decide whether to unionize. Management has responded by retaliating against workers for standing up for their rights. In June, a federal judge found Aston guilty of illegally intimidating and harassing workers. Recently, two pro-Union workers, Jon and Lakai, were unfairly fired. They were key witnesses in the aforementioned trial.
Please read the statement below, then sign this petition to call on Aqua-Aston to treat its workers with equal respect. Please share this with other faith leaders and encourage them to sign it.

We, the faith community of Hawai’i, believe that social justice is a public expression of love and faith. As clergy, we are committed to equality, authentic relationships, and the common good.
We believe we have a moral responsibility to promote just and ethical treatment of workers, and to intervene when powerful individuals or institutions seek to undermine their rights.
We call upon Aqua-Aston Hospitality to:
- Give workers a fair process to decide whether to unionize—free of intimidation and threats.
- Immediately repent from disciplining, intimidating, and/or threatening workers because they support the union. These actions are illegal, and a federal judge has already found Aqua-Aston guilty of doing this.
- Treat your workers with respect. Give workers fair working conditions, reasonable workloads, and just compensation. Healthy workers who earn livable wages are able to give enough time to their families to keep our faith communities and the broader community strong.
We call upon the broader community to:
- Have conversations with your friends, family, coworkers, and faith communities about workers’ issues in Hawaii. Spreading awareness is a good first step.
- Pray for the working people of Hawaii who are oppressed by economic inequality and who are forced to make impossible choices when caring for themselves and their loved ones.
- Support workers at Aston Waikiki Beach, Hotel Renew, and other places where workers are not being treated with equal respect. Attend a rally in solidarity with the workers. Sign a petition supporting the workers.
- Tell Aqua-Aston management to respect their workers. Contact these executives by phone, email, or visit their headquarters.
In Solidarity,
Faith Leaders of Hawaii
