Ohio Faith Leaders Call for Authorities to Suspend the Deportation of Maribel Trujillo Diaz
As faith leaders in Ohio, we call on Senator Rob Portman to help suspend the deportation of Maribel Trujillo Diaz, an Ohio mother of four and Catholic lay leader.
Mrs. Diaz, who has lived in the U.S. for 15 years, serves at St. Julie Billiart Parish in Hamilton, and works full time with a work permit to support her family.
As a community of faith, we believe that families are sacred and deserve to stay together. Mothers are due honor and protection, not detention and deportation. But throughout Ohio, we minister to our immigrant neighbors who are overwhelmed by the fear that their mothers, fathers, brothers or sisters could be deported at any time.
As people of faith and Americans, we must choose a better way forward by modernizing our outdated immigration policies, not resorting to aggressive deportation policies that tear parents away from their children. We can keep families together and our communities safe by pursuing practical solutions. Leaders from AMOS, Faith in Public Life, and people of faith throughout Ohio are asking for you to do all you can to free Maribel today.
Sen. Portman, you can be part of the solution by supporting morally sound immigration policies and calling on Immigration and Customs Enforcement to suspend the cruel, immoral detention and deportation of Maribel Trujillo Diaz.
