Detroiters have borne the costs of illegally inflated property tax assessments for years, leading to displacement, property tax foreclosures, and deep distrust. In the first 100 days of 2026, we expect our newly elected mayor and City councilpersons to take measurable steps to make Detroit’s property tax assessment system lawful and to begin the healing process for the harm done.

1) Fully implementing the Property Tax Reform Ordinance

3) Protecting and modernizing the process to obtain the Principal Residence Exemption and HOPE Exemption
4) Providing restitution to overtaxed homeowners
5) Replace existing chief assessor with one with the proper qualifications
