For a Trans-Inclusive Labour Party
The Leader of the Labour Party and members of the Labour Party NEC
In light of the Prime Minister’s horrific remarks made in the presence of Brianna Ghey's mother, Labour members across the country are united in anguish at the situation for the trans community across the UK.
We were glad to see Keir Starmer stand up for what’s right in Parliament, but we have a responsibility to back those words up with action. A safe, trans-inclusive Britain starts with a safe, trans-inclusive Labour Party.
We encourage all Party members and affiliates to sign this open letter showing that the labour movement wants a different direction on trans rights.

In light of the Prime Minister’s horrific remarks made in the presence of Brianna Ghey's mother this week, Labour members across the country are united in anguish at the situation for the trans community across the UK.
We were glad to see Keir Starmer stand up for what’s right in Parliament, but we have a responsibility to back those words up with action. A safe, trans-inclusive Britain starts with a safe, trans-inclusive Labour Party.
We, the undersigned, call on you to take these three steps to make the Labour Party a safe space for the trans community and our allies:
1. Take a zero-tolerance approach to transphobia in the Labour Party, starting with an NEC Code of Conduct on Transphobia that includes a clear and robust definition of transphobic behaviour, applicable to all members.
2. Make clear that Labour MPs and other elected representatives have a duty to treat all communities with respect. Transphobia, in any guise, is completely unacceptable.
3. To show Labour will be on the side of the trans community in Government, the Frontbench must recommit to implementing a self-ID gender recognition system, put forward a clear plan for reforming our broken trans healthcare system, and reaffirm our Party's commitment to a trans-inclusive, comprehensive LGBTQ+ conversion therapy ban.
Trans members of the Labour Party are ready to engage at all levels on implementing these steps. The Prime Minister's comments make clear it's more important than ever that Labour, as the party of equality, stands up for the trans community. We can only do that if our Party is a place where trans people can feel welcome and supported. Together, we can change Labour for the better.
Yours in solidarity,
Labour for Trans Rights
