Free Adan Mumin!

Congresswoman Randall, Senator Murrary, and Senator Cantwell

Adan Hussein Mumin is currently being held at the Northwest Detention Center. He is one of our many Free Them All Campaigns.

“Hi, my name is Adan Hussein Mumin. I’m 43 years old from Somalia. I came to the United States in 2001 as a refugee, fleeing the civil war in Somalia. I was five years old, when I witness how my family was being treated which caused me to have severe PTSD, depression, anxiety, and panic attacks.

I arrived to the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, WA on April 14th, 2025. I have been in detention for 16 months. Since then, my court continues to be postponed over and over again. What worries me the most is the unknown. If I get deported to Somalia. My three children will suffer and I don’t know what may happen to me in Somalia.

Since I came to this detention center. The food is very poor and not eatable. It has been months since the detention center has provided any mental medical and mental health support and resources.

The cleaners come in and do the bare minimum. For example, I asked one of the cleaners one day ‘wow you are moving the broom so fast.’ The cleaner replied ‘I need to get out of here fast because I need somewhere to be.’

The officers who are supposed to sanitized the tables, phones, and take out the garbage it does not happen. When we send our clothes to be cleaned it comes back worse and not clean. The vents are clogged up with dust. Impacting our health.

We have a pod officer, who constantly yells, bullies, and intimidates us. If someone speak up or write grievances, we face retaliations. We are ALL becoming numb in here.

I hope by sharing my story it brings awareness to the daily struggles of people in detention because we are struggling in here. To close, any help that I can receive for me and everyone else detained here at NWDC will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.”

Thank you for listening to Adan's story, please help with a Call To Action!
