"Hello, my name is Jamali Manisuru. I am currently being held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, while dealing with severe medical conditions. Every day my health continues to worsen. I have been here for over 11 months. After the first two months of being here, my previous medical condition become much worse. My doctor told me from Saint Joseph Medical Center that if treatment continues to be delayed, my stomach could perforate and my colon could suffer damage, to safe my life I need a ostomy surgery. They said that waiting too long could eventually kill me, yet I remain in custody without knowing when I will finally receive the medical care I need.

When I got here, I weighed 150 pounds, but now I am down to about 139.1 pounds because I can barely eat. They only give me pureed food to eat, which is why I lost so much weight. I am one of the only people on this floor with a wheelchair, although every floor has at least one person in a wheelchair. I take more than 16 medications every day just to get through the day. Every other day, I go through a enema procedure very painful and has been hard physically.

Since being here, I have been hospitalized almost every month. When in the hospital, my arms and feet are handcuffed to the bed. It is painful and I ask them to take just one of them off me from the pain and I tell them that I won't run away, but they don't listen.

It has also been bad because there have been serious mistakes with my medical care. There have been many times where the nurse gave me the wrong medication or the wrong dosage and because of that I have overdosed twice and taken the wrong medication. I had to advocate for myself for the nurses to give me the right medication and amount.

I also do not have strong family support nearby. My parents live in Africa, and communication with them is hard and expensive. Most days, I feel so alone while going through one of the hardest experiences of my life. I have a wife and twin boys and I haven't been able to see or talk to them since being detained.

I am asking for help because I fear for my health and my future. I ask for the public's help to help me get out so I can get the correct medical care I need before this becomes fatal and to help me be reunited with my family."
