“My name is Jose Gaspar Rosas.
I was brought to the U.S. when I was three years old in 1998. I have three beautiful daughters who were born in this country. In addition to my two-year career in the security field, I also had a landscaping business. One day several vehicles showed up at my job site and armed men jumped out and pointed their guns at me. They refused to identify themselves.
I was taken into custody in Adelanto, California for 2-3 weeks, then transferred to the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC) in may of 2025 supposedly to receive better medical treatment.
Since being here, I have been given 7 different prescriptions trying to stabilize my medical condition.
Because of this I have suffered:
16 seizures, 3 heart attacks, 1 migraine attack, and 2 strokes at NWDC.
The medical staff here do not know how to provide adequate treatment. They agree I need to see a specialist but told me they would only take me to one if I signed an authorization. I am legally under the care of my mother. When I told them I could not sign any kind of medical authorization, they accused me of "refusing to cooperate" and returned me to my unit.
I did not receive the medical care I needed. I have received medical bills costing more than $800 for treatments that harm me.
When I have my seizures, my colleagues in my unit help me because it takes the medical response team 15-20 minutes to arrive. When they finally get there, they just inject me with medication that causes me to fall asleep and not know what is happening to me at the ER.
The conditions in this detention center are unhealthy in other ways too.
The food arrives 2-3 hours late, cold, and undercooked. We are questioned when we ask for soap and basic hygiene products after going 3-4 days without them.
If you're sick it takes 4 days for someone to see you. If you need any kind of substantial medical treatment, it's worse.
A Congresswoman from California reached out to NWDC but did not receive a response from staff.”
