Free Tri Nguyen - Demand Release from Montgomery Processing Center NOW!

ICE ERO Houston Acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez

Tri Nguyen - husband, father, and small business worker - was detained on August 26, 2025 during his annual ICE check-in in Houston and needs to be released immediately.

  • Mr. Nguyen entered the United States in 1991 as a refugee from Vietnam as a 17 year old child with his mom, dad, brothers, and sisters after the war in Southeast Asia.

  • Mr. Nguyen received his green card In 1992 and left his home to survive by himself because of an abusive household.

  • Because of trauma from the war and resettling in a new country that spoke a different language, had a different culture, and didn't provide resources to survive - navigating life without his family’s support was nearly impossible without falling under bad influence.

  • Because of these bad conditions, Mr. Nguyen was convicted in California for a theft and served time in jail and later in Texas for possession of marijuana (his friend possessed it in the car without Mr. Nguyen’s knowledge but was convicted regardless) and was ordered probation (no jail time).

  • After Mr. Nguyen’s green card was taken after his convictions and was given a final order of removal. Because Vietnam would not repatriate Mr. Nguyen, Mr. Nguyen has been stuck in limbo in the United States fighting over and over to terminate his order of removal while complying with all immigration reporting requirements.

  • After serving his time for his criminal convictions, Mr. Nguyen has been living with his U.S. Citizen wife, and 13 year old U.S. Citizen son with autism and is a model person supporting his family as a moving company driver for over twenty years.

  • As their sole provider, Tri has been supporting his wife, one son, and elderly parents for the past two years. Mr. Nguyen's detention and consequential lack of income coming to the family is putting a financial, emotional, and spiritual strain on the family.

  • Mr. Nguyen is an outstanding community member serving his neighbors, his temple, his family’s church, and his family.

We will email our petition to ICE ERO Houston Acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez with the number and names of people who sign by Wednesday, September 3rd.

Why we're fighting:

Deportation is a violent, inhumane, racist form of family separation.

- While Mr. Nguyen has been convicted of "crimes", he has already served his time and should not be double and triple punished.

- Mr. Nguyen is an outstanding community member serving his neighbors, his temple, his family's church, and his family.

- Mr. Nguyen's detention and consequential lack of income coming to the family is putting a financial strain on the family.

Dear Mr. Martinez,

We the undersigned are asking for you to release Tri Thoi Nguyen (A# 072-623-635).

Mr. Nguyen entered the United States in 1991 as a refugee from Vietnam as a 17 year old child with his mom, dad, brothers, and sisters after the war in Southeast Asia. Mr. Nguyen received his green card In 1992 and left his home to survive by himself because of an abusive household.

Because of trauma from the war and resettling in a new country that spoke a different language, had a different culture, and didn't provide resources to survive - navigating life without his family’s support was nearly impossible without falling under bad influence.

With these bad conditions, Mr. Nguyen was convicted in California for a theft and served time in jail and later in Texas for possession of marijuana (his friend possessed it in the car without Mr. Nguyen’s knowledge but was convicted regardless) and was ordered probation (no jail time).

After serving his time for his criminal convictions, Mr. Nguyen has been living with his U.S. Citizen wife, and 13 year old U.S. Citizen son with autism and is a model person supporting his family as a moving company driver for over twenty years.

As their sole provider, Tri has been supporting his wife, one son, and elderly parents for the past two years. Mr. Nguyen's detention and consequential lack of income coming to the family is putting a financial, emotional, and spiritual strain on the family.

Mr. Nguyen is an outstanding community member serving his neighbors, his temple, his family’s church, and his family.
