Get Democrats to Support a Carbon Tax & Help Solve Income Inequality

Democrat Party Leadership: Tom Perez, Rep Nancy Pelosi, Sen Chuck Schumer, Rep Keith Ellison, and Senate Democrats on Committee on Environment and Public Works (Carper, Cardin, Sanders, Whitehouse, Merkley, Gillibrand, Booker, Markey, Duckworth, Harris)

I have been doing environmental and climate change work for 15 years. I've recently also worked in equity and diversity. So I've long understood that the most efficient and effective policy solution for climate change is a carbon tax. It is not hard to implement and has very little administrative burden. Plus, with smart policy as I've recommended, the revenue from that tax could actually help structurally correct the impacts of climate change, invest in clean energy research and jobs, and help solve the staggering income inequality facing our country. Yes, we can solve these problems all at once.

After the last election, so many have said that Democrats do not have the bold vision and ideas. They've said all we do is point out the faults in the other party. Only resist the current occupant of the Oval Office. Well, here is a bold solution and vision that would rally people. A lot. It's so popular that companies and Republicans are circulating it. This solution is squarely at the heart of what the Democratic Party stands for and yet no Democrat is advocating for it.

This petition is to Democratic Party leadership to make this policy a cornerstone of the vision and platform of the party and commit by stating so publicly and introducing legislation.

PROPOSAL TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION AND INCLUDE IN 2020 DEMOCRATIC PARTY PLATFORM:

Implement a broad-based "fee and dividend" carbon tax making "polluters pay" that returns the majority of the revenue generated as an equal distribution to households earning less than $250,000, and invests a smaller portion of the revenue into clean energy research and clean energy job retraining to accelerate the de-carbonization of our economy.

QUICK REASONS WHY:

This makes polluters pay people for the impacts they experience because of climate change and increased cost of energy.

By distributing the revenue generated back to households earning less than $250,000 this will help reduce income inequality and operate like a universal basic income.

This proposal reinvest a portion of the revenue directly into clean energy research and clean energy job retraining programs focused on rural communities to provide opportunity in a fast-moving economy for jobs that cannot be outsourced.

Dear Democratic Party Leadership,

The most efficient and effective policy solution for climate change is a carbon tax. It is easy to implement. Plus, with smart policy, the revenue from that tax could actually help structurally correct the impacts of climate change, invest in clean energy research and jobs, and help solve the staggering income inequality facing our country. Yes, we can solve these problems all at once.

After the last election, many have said that Democrats do not have the bold vision and ideas. They've said all we do is point out the faults in the other party. Only resist the current occupant of the Oval Office. Well, here is a bold solution and vision that would rally people. A lot. It's so popular that companies and Republicans are circulating it and Senator Graham has endorsed it. This solution is squarely at the heart of what the Democratic Party stands for and yet Democrats are not publicly advocating for it.

This petition is asking you to introduce legislation that will implement a broad-based "fee and dividend" carbon tax making "polluters pay" that returns the majority of the revenue generated as an equal distribution to households earning less than $250,000, and invests a smaller portion of the revenue into clean energy research and clean energy job retraining to accelerate the de-carbonization of our economy.

Thank you.
