Get the Flock Out of LivCo
Livingston County Commissioners
We, the undersigned residents, businesses, workers, and community organizations of Livingston County, call on the county commissioners to act decisively to safeguard the privacy, safety, and well‑being of all Livingston County citizens.
Our demands are:
The Immediate Removal of Flock Safety Cameras – Order the termination of every contract, lease, and service agreement with Flock Safety and have all installed cameras dismantled within 30 days of commission approval.
Full Public Audit of Data‑Sharing Agreements – Conduct a transparent, independently‑verified audit of any and all data‑sharing arrangements between the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, its vendors, and federal agencies.
Reallocation of Saved Funds – Redirect these tax payer funds to critical community services.
Why this matters now:
We don’t want to give the federal government tools that can surveil our community.
Police nationwide can search the same database, this has already been abused for unrelated investigations (e.g., police using Flock cameras to stalk romantic interests).
No public oversight – Residents have no meaningful input or audit of how the data is collected, stored, or shared. Police and federal agents exchange information behind closed doors.
Fiscal waste – our tax money is wasted on a system that makes our community less safe and diverts money from housing, health, and education.
National trend – The ACLU reports a growing rollout of Flock’s surveillance network, often paired with AI‑driven “suspicion” features that expand dragnets across jurisdictions.
Flock’s license‑plate system is already being weaponized by federal officers and local police, lacks any public oversight, and wastes taxpayer dollars. Immediate removal and reallocation of funds are essential to protect privacy, civil liberties, and community resources.
We ask the County Commissioners to adopt a formal resolution that incorporates the three demands above, to be voted on ASAP.
By signing this petition, we affirm our commitment to a Livingston County where safety is built on mutual aid, transparency, and respect for civil liberties, not on mass surveillance.
