Give Local Communities the Power to Raise Wages
Harrisburg Politicians

For over 15 years, Pennsylvania has blocked cities and counties from raising the minimum wage locally. This policy — called preemption — strips power from local governments and keeps wages at a poverty-level $7.25/hour, even in places where both elected leaders and residents want more.
In Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and communities across the state, families are struggling to pay rent, afford groceries, and stay afloat. But Harrisburg politicians have tied our hands.
I’m part of a coalition of union members, local leaders, and everyday Pennsylvanians fighting to lift preemption and give us back the power to raise wages. We’re having thousands of conversations with voters who agree: our communities deserve control over our economic future.
This petition is a way to show lawmakers that the people they represent are ready for change.

We are calling on you to repeal Pennsylvania’s outdated preemption law that blocks cities and counties from setting their own minimum wage.
Across the state, local leaders know what their communities need. Yet Harrisburg politicians have stripped them of the power to respond—leaving millions of working families behind as costs rise. Right now, a city like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh can’t raise wages for struggling workers, even when local leaders, businesses, and voters want to.
We demand you take action:
✅ Repeal preemption and restore local control
✅ Support legislation that empowers communities to raise wages
✅ Stop blocking progress at the local level
Let us decide what’s best for our workers. Let our communities lead.
