Texas has set an execution date of August 15 for Dexter Johnson, who was convicted in the 2007 murders of Maria Aparece and Huy Ngo, a crime he committed at the age of 18. In state appeals filed in April, his attorney claimed that Johnson is intellectually disabled and is therefore ineligible for the death penalty, because the U.S. Supreme Court prohibits execution of the intellectually disabled. His petition noted that a new evaluation puts Johnson's IQ at 70, which is generally considered to be intellectually disabled.

We, the undersigned, ask that you do everything within your power to stop this execution, including issuing a 30-day reprieve, and seeking a path to clemency.
