Gov. Hochul: Stop Trump Pipelines in New York!

Governor Kathy Hochul, Department of Environmental Conservation

President Trump and Gov. Hochul met recently to discuss the buildout of fossil fuel pipelines in New York, including projects that the state has struck down in previous years. We cannot allow a dirty pipeline deal that opens New York to more fracked gas projects!

Two previously defeated pipelines including the Williams NESE and Constitution pipelines are back on the table alongside the expansion of the Algonquin pipeline dubbed 'Project Maple'. On Wednesday, July 2, Governor Hochul quietly fast-tracked the review process for the Williams NESE pipeline.

If these pipelines are approved, New Yorkers will be saddled with increasing costs to pay for the infrastructure and the impacts of its pollution--all the while Donald Trump's Big Oil cronies and billionaire friends reap the profits. Our bills are already too high to deal with the added burden, not to mention these pipelines would steepen our reliance on fossil fuels and worsen our climate crisis.

Governor Hochul must not go backwards and approve any new fossil fuel infrastructure, including these Trump pipelines. Instead, we must lower bills, cut pollution and invest in good green jobs for everyday New Yorkers by committing to energy efficient homes and scaling up renewable energy sources like wind, solar and battery storage.

Urge Governor Hochul to Stop Trump Pipelines in New York!

Dear Governor Kathy Hochul and the Department of Environmental Conservation,

Please oppose and stop Trump-backed pipelines including Williams' NESE and Constitution pipelines as well as Enbridge's expansion of the Algonquin pipeline, dubbed 'Project Maple'. We cannot afford more fossil fuel infrastructure which create more air & water pollution and saddle New Yorkers with billions in added costs as we are already dealing with sky-high utility bills. Instead, we urge you to invest in clean energy jobs and energy efficient housing that utilizes energy sources like wind, solar and battery storage.

Many New Yorkers like me were very concerned to hear you met with President Trump in March to discuss a deal that would lead to the buildout of more pipelines in New York, including ones that were previously struck down here in New York. These pipelines were wrong for us then and they are still wrong for us now.

Furthermore, I am shocked your Department of Environmental Conservation quietly fast-tracked the review process for the Williams NESE pipeline on July 2, 2025. This is a massive $1 billion project that will produce millions of tons of metric pollution annually, polluting the air and water of local communities. The public needs to be engaged in the review process and you must extend the public comment period to at least 120 days and provide multiple virtual and in-person public hearings to bring local communities and other stakeholders throughout the state.

New York must stand up to Donald Trump to ensure everyday New Yorkers can to afford to live here and breathe easy. Added fossil fuel infrastructure including these pipelines end up costing ratepayers more than we can bear while increasing public health dangers from added the pollution. We have also been hit so many extreme weather events and it will get worse by adding pipelines which only exacerbate the crisis.

New Yorkers deserve clean air and clean water. We should not be burdened with added costs from more fossil fuel pipelines just because Donald Trump and his billionaire Oil & Gas cronies want to reap more profits. You must exercise your authority as Governor to ensure these pipelines do not get approved in New York and work to ensure we rapidly build out renewable energy sources and energy efficient affordable housing here in New York. We all deserve a Livable New York and more fracked gas pipelines are not the answer.
