GT Students Against Starbucks Campaign

President Ángel Cabrera, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Luoluo Hong, Vice President for Administration and Finance Kelly Fox, and Store Director of Barnes & Nobles at Georgia Tech Reshma Patel

Representing Representing over 600 stores across the country, Starbucks Workers United (SBWU) is fighting to secure a fair contract with the Starbucks Corporation. However, in recent years, and with the hiring of their new CEO Brian Niccol, Starbucks has proven that they do not plan to respect the rights and voices of their workers. As the next generation of workers – and one of Starbucks’ key customer demographics – we must stand up to major corporations like Starbucks to demand they stop exploiting their workers while denying them basic rights like fair wages, consistent work schedules, and the right to organize a union without intimidation or fear of retaliation.

GT YDSA and SBWU calls for students to:
  1. Boycott all Starbucks products on campus until further notice
  2. Sign the open letter condemning Starbucks' union-busting strategies and pledge support with SBWU
  3. Work to replace the campus' Starbucks in Barnes & Nobles with a more ethical coffee shop

We, the undersigned students, faculty, and staff of the Georgia Institute of Technology, call on President Ángel Cabrera and the Institute's administration to instruct Barnes & Nobles to end its partnership with Starbucks and cease selling Starbucks products in the campus bookstore due to Starbucks' egregious record of union busting. We demand that Starbucks products no longer be served on campus or through any body affiliated with Georgia Tech and that the Starbucks in Barnes & Nobles at Georgia Tech be replaced with an alternative coffee shop.
