The Trump administration is taking a hatchet to Social Security, and the time to speak out is now! Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency is trying to close Social Security offices, lay off thousands of Social Security Administration workers who administer benefits and seize Social Security data. None of these actions will make the system better. There have even been recent reports of the Social Security Administration’s website crashing. And DOGE has already used some of the data to spread lies and misinformation about fraud to undermine Social Security and justify deep cuts to the program.

We all know what Musk has said; he wants to gut the hard-earned Social Security benefits of older Americans, survivors, and people with disabilities.

Social Security has always been there for working people:

• Social Security has never missed a payment.
• 1 in 3 older Americans relies on Social Security for at least 90 percent of their income.
• Without Social Security, 22 million more adults and children would fall below the poverty line.

We should be strengthening Social Security by making sure billionaires like Elon Musk and their cronies pay their fair share. Instead, we are forced to fight to keep it alive.
